Get in the time machine by taking a walk in the picturesque and historical alleys of the Old Town of Chania.
At each step, you will experience a successive combination of Byzantine,
Venetian and classical Greek cultural elements. Revitalized from its ashes, the old city of Chania, literally because it was bombed and burned several times in its long history, is declared one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean.
One of the most impressive sights is the Venetian port where you will see the lighthouse, a trademark of the city.
Samaria Gorge
The Gorge of Samaria is the gem of the White Mountains. Hidden in the south part of the Chania district, it is the biggest gorge in Europe, covering an area of 18 kilometres in length.
The trail of Samaria is the most visited trail in the whole of Greece, it is excellently equipped with signals and signs which eliminate the danger of getting lost, it is comfortable and very well cared for, mostly with stones and soil. It is not considered a very difficult hike, a vivid proof of which is the fact that hundreds of people cross it daily from the opening (in May) till the closing of its visiting season (in October).
Balos – Gramvousa
Chania has some of the best beaches in Europe on Crete’s west and south west coast. Balos is the most spectacular beach that is definitely worth visiting.
The white and at places pink sand, the turquoise warm and shallow waters, the rocks reaching for the sky around the lagoon… all these amazing elements come together to create a heavenly landscape, which you are bound to want to keep returning to!
